Design Kompany just finished this logo design for a North Carolina glass artist’s new line of sinks.
All of this started in May with a brainstorming session at Design Kompany’s conference room in Capitol Hill. As we learned how artist Mark Selleck makes the sinks, and began to picture who might like to buy them, we hit upon the name “flow.”
“That sounds like it could work,” Dipika said. “When heat fuses glass, it sort of flows.”
“And glass is actually a liquid,” Akira added.
Mark liked the name, too. But because we didn’t want to leave out any other good ideas, Akira and Dipika kept listening for interesting angles. Over the next few weeks we were very in touch with Waxhaw, North Carolina. We traded lists of ideas and a trail of comments. And just by exchanging these bits of conversation, we really got to know how Mark Selleck thinks about glassmaking and better understand his product.
Manufacturing’s ready to go. Design Kompany just sent off a design for the side of the box. And now we’re making a web site. We’re just getting going on this part, but to give you a sneak peak, here’s Flow’s splash page.
And here’s the new brochure.
UPDATE: May 2008
Flow was our first naming project at Design Kompany. Since then, we’ve come up with a few others and learned quite a lot along the way.
