Design Kompany’s Secret Art Project Unveiled

"Wavular" livening up the party on Thursday

Design Kompany’s Dipika Kohli just tagged the wall of Vermillion Gallery, and got away with it.

In conjunction with Thursday night’s Arcade Fashion+IT issue celebration, we were asked to come up with a piece that would complement the conceptual piece made by Graypants, architecture+furniture design collective. The kicker? We had exactly 48 hours to do it.

Dipika working on "wavular"Dipika made her abstract line drawing using two fresh Sharpie markers directly on the painted wall. With no premeditated design or sketches. It took her 4 hours or so to transform the white surface into a jumble of landscape, of lines and pseudo-buildings and multiple vanishing points. Fellow artist Stacey Farrar, in the spirit of collaboration, arranged his mirror panel installation to extend the drawing scape to the adjacent wall. The event also featured illustrative art by Marianne Goldin, and big photographic panels of the gallery in the making by the owner Diana Adams.

DK’s graffiti-like wall drawing, titled “wavular,” and most of the other installations for Arcade/Vermillion opening, will be up through March. The gallery is on 11th Ave. on Capitol Hill, between Pike and Pine St.
If you like what you see, there’ll be more to come. Watch this space!

We got written up! Thanks for the mention, Seth + Jon. Also, I neglected to mention that Erin Kendig of Arcade also contributed to the above piece (called “a stitch in time”) credited to graypants…
