Seattle zine Rivet launches new issue March 15 at Hideout in First Hill

Rivet Magazine

Anyone out there interested in indie publishing? Design Kompany collaborates with Ballard publisher Chin Music Press and we’ve done news layout for The City Collegian (Seattle Central Community College’s paper), and the International District-based Northwest Asian Weekly.

But as much as we like media, DK hasn’t gotten to know any zine publishers*. Until now.

We met some people from Rivet Magazine recently at the Richard Hugo House in Capitol Hill. Got a magazine. Now Rivet tells us they’re hosting a party on Thursday, March 15, for the release of this new issue (pictured above).

*Though I did enjoy meeting the people behind 2GirlzQuarterly at Wordstock in Portland in 2005. In fact, the copy I bought then and a second issue I picked up on a visit to Powell’s afterward really influenced the design direction Seattle Central Community College chose while working with DK to update their Seattle Central Community College’s 2006-2007 student handbook design. Also see our post on newletter and newspage layout design tips. –DK
