SPOILER WARNING: I’m gonna give away something so if you haven’t seen Up and don’t want to know too much, don’t read on. Or look at this picture.

Dude, I couldn’t believe it.
Pixar had this whole subplot in the movie Up that was inspired by a story Akira read to me not even a year ago called Hi no Tori. Or, “火の鳥,” if your computer picks up Japanese. It’s about an incredibly beautiful and uncatchable phoenix.
I LOVE the story series Hi no Tori. Talk about great storytelling. Osamu Tezuka. ‘Nuff said.
About Up itself, I don’t have a whole lot to say. The story was cute, sweet and hit all the right notes of emotion that you would expect in a film from Pixar. They’re really good at character, aren’t they? But I have to say I really miss the intensity and satire that came out with Wall-E. Up was different, yes. Better, no.
