I read this book on Friday and Saturday. I have to say, it was really, really depressing. But it did do one thing. It made me decide to become a vegetarian.
I’m totally serious.
It’s back to tofu for me.
Author J.M. Coetzee plays with characters that will seem comfortable or familiar to modern city dwellers; even though it’s set in South Africa we understand the protagonist’s intellectual lifestyle.
Until he gets to the countryside, that is. And sees what there is to see.
DK is reading Coetzee for one of our current branding projects, which we’ll be able to talk about when we complete it very soon. Asking for reading recommendations helps us understand what clients like and don’t like. Asking for book referrals is part of our method to distill abstract ideas into a concrete brand message.
