Just browsing Behance, a networking site for creative professionals (they also sell nice notebooks), this morning, and saw a video clip featured in their homepage, a music video from 2007.
That’s funny, I said. I remember that song from 2003.
It was December in Dublin, 2003. We were at some kind of a media award celebration in a Guinness brewery building. They had a sort of a indy music set, featuring Liam Ó Maonlaí of Hothouse Flowers, the Jimmy Cake (we have written about them previously around this time of the year, when we get misty-eyed about our time in Ireland) , and these two tall guys, calling themselves “Jape.”
The song they played? “Floating.”
“Floooating, floooating, it feels like floating” They sang, the guy singing with just a bass guitar, the other guy with a guitar barely touching the instrument. They seemed, I don’t know, stoned. We were not impressed (though the rest of the set was amazing).
But surely enough, within months we’d hear the familiar refrains on the radio.
We left Ireland soon afterward, so I don’t know how popular Jape got ultimately in Ireland. Though, judging from this video and blurb attached to it, it seems Jape is now an international act.
We liked the video quite a lot, actually. What do you think?

Awesome Vid!!Much better than the usual tips post. Most of the points are spot on and realisitc.
