When we got to Safeco field in the middle of the first inning last night, the M’s were already down 2 runs.
DK: Hey, wait. So, are the Mariners last in their division?
BS: Worse. They’re the last in the league.
But by the ninth inning, they were up 9-6. And the score stayed that way.
Nine runs!
Hence, the M’s avoided their 100th loss. And ended a 12-game losing streak.
It was nice they beat the Oakland Athletics.
I’ve never liked the A’s much, because they had Jose Canseco back in the day, and he was intimidating.
This was when I’d keep up with AL and NL standings and watch highlights and listen for Chris Berman’s punny nicknames on ESPN’s Sportscenter. Pretty much nightly. All season.
This, of course, was before that awful baseball strike that sent a million fans like me into the equivalent of baseball Siberia for the better part of the late 90s.
Who remembers the strike?
