Short scene from a Seattle restaurant
At ‘Vietnamese’ restaurant Monsoon in Seattle.
9pm Sunday
A soft, cool Seattle evening
Enter bustling and trendy restaurant, admittedly with some reluctance
D and A are Design Kompany’s own Dipika Kohli and Akira Morita. W is Waiter.
D: What kind of food is this. I mean, is this like Asian fusion?
W: No. It’s traditional Vietnamese food.
D: But there are some Japanese words here. Like “kurobuta” pork belly and this one about mushrooms…
W: …
A: …
D: Some of this looks Chinese, too. Yu choy?
W: Yes. Vietnam has many foreign influences from all over Asia.
D: Sounds like Asian fusion to me!
A: …
W: …
D: [Quietly.] Not traditional Vietnamese, anyway.
W: Have you been to Vietnam?
A: …
D: No.
W: Well, then you don’t know!

I can totally picture myself sitting there witnessing this…..It’s picture perfect….D & A to a T
That is hilarious. Reminds me of when I had sushi in Houston, TX and the Asian waiter had no idea what I was saying when I ordered tobiko, amaebi, tako, etc…
Hey Angie and Mike,
Thanks for the comments. I want to post Act II, but it is being reviewed by the People Who Censor the DK blog.
Stay tuned.
