Not long ago, Akira and I wandered into Kells down by the waterfront to sit on some bar stools and order Guinness. I also had a beet salad, which was pretty good.
There happened to be two guys there. Musicians, I mean. I learned these two are there every single weeknight.
I didn’t quite get into the music, so I decided to go make a request.
You might not think an Indian-American kid would be into it—they certainly didn’t!—but I requested Christy Moore.

That sparked some interest.
They played my song, Lakes of Ponchartrain.
This is the same song FH played for my going-away party in Skibbereen, County Cork. That was 2004, the very year DK relocated to Seattle.
To be nice, the lads at Kells also played Ride On. Which was the very first song someone sang, the day I landed and got introduced to cozy winter fireplaceside pub culture. American bars just aren’t the same.
Unrelated, we went to see Josh Ritter the other day in Victoria, BC. Another artist we discovered in Ireland, but who happens to be from Moscow, ID. Very poetic lyricism.
Also happening at Kells that night
Interestingly the bar was mobbed with a bunch of people who had just found out they no longer work for the Seattle Sonics.
