Seattle zine stuff

The library does a good job putting stuff like this together.

Granted, the zine workshop on Monday is officially for teens. But they won’t turn you away. Just register first.

The reason I know this is because I went to a comics workshop also aimed at kids and teens. Also at our lovely Capitol Hill neighborhood’s library. I got to meet one of the illustrators for American Splendor.

Which is also a movie, of course.

Which I recently watched again.

Way better than seeing it on a plane. Enjoyed it. A lot.

Especially because I just saw the R. Crumb show at the Frye this year.

And ’cause I have a better appreciation now for the art of comics in general. I made this for Ouch My Eye Studio’s June show Apocalypse Now. It’s on through Sunday, July 13—that’s tomorrow!—so hurry over and check it out!

Anyway back to Monday’s workshop!

Here’s what’s on tap:

Lucy Morehouse brings snacks, lots of random things to cut up, stencils, stamps, scissors, glue sticks, and access to the over-ride key for the branch copier (free copies!).

It’s a very basic Zinery 101 class.

We do a short bit of introduction and then folks make a four-page zine with a cover.

So if this is your magical world, you should come out Seattle. Three cheers for public libraries! —Ongongpress

They have a class called ‘My Space Tips & Tricks.’

What’s up with that?
