Really great show on right now at the Frye Art Museum called Anxious Objects: Willie Cole’s Favorite Brands
Sculpture, assembly of stuff like discarded hair dryers, bike parts, irons and high heeled shoes.
Mass market consumer crap, in other words.
According to an art curator quoted in a press release, “The term ‘anxious objects’ comes from [art] critic Harold Rosenberg’s contention that contemporary artists create hybrid objects with strong and unsettling cultural implications and energy.”
Yeah. No.
Wait. What?
Oh… just go see it. You can skip the other stuff, though, except for this really neato green walled portrait called SIN nothing interesting’s going on. –DK
