DK just did the program design for the Seattle bloggers’ conference Gnomedex. The program went to print Monday and gets distributed today. Deadline art! Hot diggity.
We were part of a team gathered up by Chris and Ponzi Pirillo of Lockergnome, and got to work with vector art illustrator Eddie Hollenbeck of Los Angeles-based Digital Libra Media and Stuart Maxwell of The New Big. DK’s go-to copywriter Jace Krause helped out with copy edits.
I really had a fun time putting this together. I haven’t gotten to design infographics for a zillion years… Making sure we had the facts in the right places–in a not-boring, not staid way–was the true design challenge.
Throughout it all, Akira kept harping on the elegance of white space and not “prettying” things up with random Seattle skylines and whatnot. Even though I was kinda on a roll. But in the end, it made sense to leave things airy and let the ads be the page “art.”
Good call, A. Check out his post on rhythmic design or this one on page layout tips.
i just love what you did with the art and the layout of the program. wonderful work
Thanks, Eddie. Though I never thought the design was so hot it would break the printing press.
Eddie,
Great program. It’s really beautiful and works great. Love the layout! Thanks again.
