Jace Krause was Design Kompany’s in-house copywriter in 2006.
Jace just got back from touring the West Coast with his band, Friday Mile. Above is one of his pics from “the road.”
What have you discovered lately that you’d want creative people to know about?
If I could share something with creative people, I would just recommend that you let creativity seep into every aspect of your life.
Music is my main outlet, but I also love to take photos. I also recently learned how to screen print my own shirts, posters, and album art, and I love to geek out on creative solutions to household problems, like how I fixed my iBook from ruin with a clamp.
How did you find working with DK?
Working with DK was a blast. It didn’t even really feel like work to me. The office was actually a good place to be… something I was never able to say before.
When I left, I had a handful of nice pieces to put in my portfolio. Looking back, I realize I was basically given free reign to work on projects of my choosing with guidance from D and A.
How’s your wheat-free stuff going?
I’ve been living wheat-free since fall 2006 and it’s been going well. I really really miss beer, but other than that, there are suitable replacements for almost any other gluten-heavy dish. Pizza, pasta, bread… I’ve found all of these in gluten-free form within a mile or so of my place in Ballard. Portland has the best GF pizza though: Mississippi Pizza.
Gluten-free beers are out there, but they don’t get me very excited. I typically just go for a cider and some bourbon at the bars.
What’s the coolest thing going on for you?
The coolest thing happening for me right now is that my band has a new record finished, and we are doing a ton of behind the scenes legwork to try and get this thing into the public sphere with as much fanfare as possible.
We met with a music publicist in Portland last weekend who is interested in working with us. She’s a heavy hitter in the music community and it seems like she knows literally EVERYBODY. We are very eager to work with her.
