I love katakana.

This says: “pecha kucha ya ya ya.”
I made it because tonight they’re hosting this thing called Pecha Kucha at Ouch My Eye Studio. The “ya ya ya” is kind of my own little embellishment. They should call it Pecha Kucha Ya Ya Ya.
In all seriousness, this looks like it’s going to be interesting if only because of the presenter lineup:
Tonight’s starting lineup
Elizabeth Brown - Chief Curator, Henry Art Gallery
Chiyo Ishikawa - Deputy Director of Art, Seattle Art Museum
Dmitri Carter - Carter Family Marionettes, Northwest Puppet Center
John Stevens Berry - Artist , STart on Broadway
Malory Graham - Executive Director, Reelgrrls
Josh LaBelle - Executive Director, The Paramount & The Moore Historic Theaters
Stafano Catalani – Curator, Bellevue Arts Museum
Leo Berk, Artist
Kitty Kavanaugh, Master Scenic Artist - Seattle Opera
Rick Araluce, Lead Scenic Arist, Seattle Opera
DK’s been to one Pecha Kucha event in the past. It was in Belltown and kinda sceney but also kind of fun. We got to see all these slides, mostly by architects, and hear stories about how everyone is secretly an artist in their garage.
The venue is pretty cool, too. Design Kompany first went to Ouch My Eye to witness Slideluck Potshow, another round of slide presentations where you bring food, too. Ouch My Eye included this piece I made for their group show, Apocalypse Now.
Best part about these gatherings is the crowd: very mixed, from all kinds of creative disciplines, looking to get some inspiration and energy from each other.
Here is more information about pechakucha at Ouch My Eye.

PS! I am not getting paid to tell you about these various happenings around Seattle, incidentally.
I just notice them and go, wow, that sounds fun and I want to make a little mini bloggy flyer for it! So there you are, ladies and gentleman. I promise they won’t all be in Japanese.

I went to Pechu Kucha in NYC last year. A bit of a mixed bag, but some of it was really fun and interesting. Hope you had a good time last night.
