On August 8, we decided to make the most of what Chinese culture considers a very auspicious day: 08-08-08. All the 8s are considered super lucky. So of course we were in swell spirits.
After work, we dug up a table that was admittedly a little wobbly, especially on the uneven earth, and some chairs.
Akira made sangrias and I cut a bunch of cubes of mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
There were going to be milkshakes, but no one wanted any. Still, ice cream was available. Albeit warm. Everyone was polite about it, though, and let me think that it was fine.
Getting together
Anyway, the idea was to get together with people, but not in a big deal way and certainly not in a huge group. Too few times do we get to spend quality time with each other and just hang out as the sun begins to set. If we were in North Carolina, this would happen on a porch with some bottles of beer and a couple of cats lolling about to boot.
Our interns
I was especially delighted to introduce two of DK’s past summer interns to one another, Alex Hage (far left) and Angela Tomson (far right). You can read posts they wrote for this blog—see links below.
Both fresh graduates, they got to talk shop a small bit, and Akira and I (middle) got to listen. Pictured to the right of Alex is his friend Jess, who good-naturedly allowed us all to geek out about jobs in graphic design.
We also got to hang out a bit with Jace Krause, who was part of Design Kompany as a copywriter last year.
