Just got a newsletter from one of our 2007 clients, the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce. They’re hosting a pretty interesting looking forum on how to galvanize the arts community in the context of rising prices for places to live here on supposed-to-be vibrant and artsy Capitol Hill.
Since this is Design Kompany’s ‘hood, we’re very interested in keeping good things happening here before all the artists get squeezed out to Georgetown and SoDo.
Here’s a snippet from the announcement for the Chamber’s event, “Call to Action! Is there room for culture and entertainment?“…
Capitol Hill, the most residentially dense neighborhood on the West Coast north of San Francisco, also is the historic home of artists and alternative arts organizations. In 2007, the Urban Land Institute named Seattle the number 2 real estate market in the nation (after Manhattan) and Americans for the Arts named Seattle the number 1 city as measured by artists and arts organizations per capita.
This confluence means we have the most artists and arts organizations per person with the least affordable real estate for them to be able to survive. The problem is exacerbated in our densest neighborhood, Capitol Hill… What are some of the options we can explore for maintaining a cultural presence on Capitol Hill?-Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce

Side note: We got a lot of great responses when Design Kompany created the brand identity design for the Chamber of Commerce in the spring of 2007. Read more about how we came up with the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce’s brand identity design using our signature method. –DK
