Design Kompany’s creating an original custom font to brand a financial services company in Los Angeles.
Hugely important to meet in person when we’re coming up with the right graphic image, so Design Kompany’s creative directors Dipika Kohli and Akira Morita made the jaunt to California in early October. We’ll be able to tell you more about the company when we’re further along with the design.
Above is a sneak peek of one of the design directions: a custom font hand-crafted by Dipika Kohli. Creating a custom font for a new graphic identity is something we’ve done twice before: branding for Red Pill and Miyabi.
Dipika drew a custom type for part of Seattle-based Red Pill Strategies‘ identity design. For the same project, Design Kompany commissioned illustrator Aaron Barker to draw the quintessential red pill.
Design Kompany got to know Aaron and appreciate his sensitive drawing style when we were commissioned to brand the Japanese restaurant Miyabi in 2006. Once we talked to Miyabi’s owners to get an idea of how to best differentiate Miyabi from Seattle’s myriad other sushi places, we brought Aaron to our team. His fish illustration and font design were exactly the right fit for our assignment’s creative brief.
