Out of the Blue

Some of you know that I am over here in Denmark these days collecting design inspiration for future brand identity designs we make at Design Kompany. A while ago Akira took a visit down to San Francisco for his inspiration walkabout.

Weøre not taking any new projects until December, but we do have a waitlist. The reason is we like to focus on just a few select projects at a time and really go deep into studying and learning about what each clientøs story wants to be about. Does that make sense? Your brain canøt really focus on too much at a time, I donøt care what the multitasking gurus say. Iøm a fan of analog style, old-school, if you will, which is why the only tools Iøve brought along are my sketchbook, pens, Minolta X-375 manual camera (film!), an exacto knife and a stick of glue. I like collage.

So, why did I pick Copenhagen for my inspiration walkabout? People told us that our “style”, a word I hesitate to use because really our work isnøt about our style but rather an expression of the personality behind each of our brand identity designs, is kind of modern. Thatøs why Iøm out here, because Scandinavia is famous and everything for modern design. I am seeing it all over the place. I am taking notes and gobs of pictures.

So that these pictures donøt end up in a box like the ones from four years in Ireland and two years in Japan, Design Kompany will publish Out of the Blue: Design Inspirations from Scandinavia in December. Stay tuned. -DK
