Dali’s Dream

Like reading an old book–something classic like A Tale of Two Cities–every now and then we like to check out old art. I just saw a pretty intense Dali piece called The Dream, the exclamation point of the From Monet to Dali show at Vancouver Art Gallery through September 16.

I am not even going to paste it in here as a .jpg because that would never do justice to what it feels like to be right there and feel the radiosity of this piece.

People were walking around with audio tour things stuck on one ear, which I think would be rather distracting.

If art doesn’t resonate with you immediately, there’s no need to know more about it.

I also just saw this exhibit yesterday. Being a lifelong artist and lover of Dali, and many other of the artists featured at this showing, I was very overawed by the experience.

Although I am quite familiar with many of the pieces, I was shocked at the impact this particular piece had for me…there is no way to describe the feeling of seeing it live, as opposed to in a book or print. The colours, the textures….it was breathtaking, and I went back a couple times after I had left it for another look - it was captivating.

I will be returning soon, before the exhibit is over, as i still feel this painting calling to me….

    Hi Amanda,

Impact is a great word. If you ever make it further south, check out Crater Lake in Oregon.

It’s the same kind of experience…. as in, moves you to tears.

I just absolutely love Dali. I would love to go and see an exhibit of his, one has to like his work as its very eccentric and different. This had to be my favorite artist when I was doing art at school.
