Last Friday the DK crew woke up early, rented a Flexcar, and headed south for a goodwill tour of Tacoma.
As a former resident of The Gritty City, I was delighted to show Dipika and Akira around town, and to share some of my favorite places. We visited the sundial at Jack Hyde Park on Ruston Way. Ironically, the sun decided not to shine on Tacoma that day.
We stopped at the conservatory at Wright Park to take some shelter from the rain and marvel at the colorful flora. I spent $6 on a book about religion at King’s Books. We lunched with our friend Kathryn at Varsity Grill and “jammed” with the awesome folks at Rusty George Creative. If you have the time, check out their web site and see the kind of work they do.
When we got back to Seattle I had an email waiting for me. Kathryn had sent me a link to some photos by Stephen Cysewski. His photos highlighted the stark difference between the Tacoma as it was decades ago, and the Tacoma we see now. Go back in time… see the photos.
