What’s up? The Seattle Art Museum has really upped its game on marketing and poster design in recent months. DK posts on SAM.
Could this have something to do with the fact that SAM is a lot bigger, more beautiful, and possibly better funded? Or is the rumor I heard true that they are operating at a loss, only compounded by the fact that tenants of the building were the now-defunct Washington Mutual. Just wondering.

In any case, DK highly recommends the current show, titled “Target Practice: Painting Under Attack.” 60% of it was a little forced, like the inclusion of images of “damage” with part of the word on fire, and maybe 8% was very forced, like, videos of people painting with their heads and being laughed at? What the heck does this have to do with anything? But the rest was great. I think they were trying to make things fit with a doom and gloomy theme, the spirit of dark moods. Remind me to write more about dark moods for a future post.
Anyway, this visit reminded me of the Jacob Dahlgren show I saw not long ago at the Henry, where there were a bunch of dartboards on a whole wall and you could throw darts. Is that where the idea came from?
DK also really loved the small but intimate Andrew Wyeth collection, though admittedly on First Thursday the cheapies like us attend because it’s free. And, sadly, crowded.
The above was my favorite from the “Target Practice” show. IGünther Uecker. Grosse Wolke (Large Cloud), 1965

Go to SAM before September 7 if you want to catch this show.
