This is for those of you in the Tar Heel state, home sweet home for DK.
An architect from Wisconsin said she moved to the Triangle because she had this idea that North Carolina is “crafty.” Not like sneaky crafty, but you know, arts and craftsy.
Since I didn’t get out to Asheville or anywhere west of Durham much I really didn’t know what she was talking about, even though I’m a North Carolina native. But over the years through the intermittent correspondences from a friend of mine who makes pottery in that part of the country, I’m beginning to see what she means.
Upcoming pottery show in Charlotte
A friend of ours, Ronan Peterson, is showing some of his new pottery in Charlotte on Saturday, September 12 at the Mint Museum.
He’ll be among 40 of North Carolina’s “best potters” for the second year in a row. Ronan says: “Last year was a great success, with me almost selling out in the first few hours. I have a lot of work in process for the sale, with lots of gorignac jars, cups, bowls, and a new cream and sugar set that I am excited about.”
Yes, yes y’all. Gorignac jars.
Southern stuff in Seattle
North Carolina is an amazing place for artists—so much richness in the landscape and color in Southern cuisine and culture. (A small plug for the local restaurant Kingfish, which does Southern style food: the owners were good enough to treat DK to our favorite whisky drinks and yam fries because we said that bar got us through the winter of new parent-dom in 2008. Isn’t that nice of them? Thank you Kingfish Cafe!)
