It’s only fitting that being deprived of television for a semester of college earns me the right to spend several days “catching up” on my favorite trashy shows. But once I’ve had more than my filling of housewives flipping tables and anything else that’s on Bravo, I felt I needed to solidify the mush that my brain had become. I attempted to achieve this by a) oddly watching more tv, but Black in America 2 is a bit more forgivable than Real World Cancun and b) picking up a book or two from the library. I figure what better time to read up on anything and everything design than when I’m not bombarded by school projects and cheap coffee. Everything from “serious” design criticisms by the likes of the (holy) Steven Heller to a simple yet inspiring collection of drawings by an artistic savant. All of them are so fascinating in their own ways. I am currently thumbing through (I admit, I sometimes just look for the pictures) “Design Humor: The Art of Graphic Wit” by Steven Heller. It’s easy for me to forget the joys of reading a book, if not only because there isn’t a bookmarked tab that says “Facebook” above it. I also paid 10 cents off my library fine the other day making my current balance $14.90 - just enough to keep borrowing.
