A few weeks ago I was in the park with swings.
There were these middle school kids running around. Three of them.
Two girls, and one boy.
One of the girls clearly liked this boy. It made me think of middle school and how it is and you know how you get all awkward and start blushing and your ears get hot and stuff. That was going on.
Except it wasn’t, really.
This young girl with a crush was more vocal than I used to be.
She was singing. Loud. And she was chasing him all over the playground.
Soon they scooted over to where I was. The other girl and the boy got on the swings.
“C’mon!” shouted the boy.
The girl with the happy singing voice said, no.
The other girl egged her on. “What? Why? C’mon!”
Her friend started singing. “I caaaan’t doooooooo it! Nooooo! No, I caaaan’t!”
“Howcome?” rejoined her young potential suitor.
“I just can’t, alright? I get a salty feeling in my foot.”
