Design Kompany is a sponsor for a free workshop this month that’s part of AIA Seattle’s Design for Livability conference.
The Taking Action: Advocacy for Livable Cities workshop will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at Seattle Central Community College.
The half-day event is organized by Allied Arts of Seattle, a nonprofit DK worked with recently to refine their brand message.
We got interested in talks on “livability” after following conversations among real estate developers, city regulators, and arts groups on the topic of rising real estate costs amid pinched arts budgets.
Especially because we’re based in Capitol Hill. We hosted our own forum, too, to consider the question:
What can we do about it?
The workshop seeks to answer how people can take steps to create more livable urban spaces.

To get ready for ‘Taking Action,’ I thought I’d do some background research.
But I’ll need your help getting started, since there are so many interpretations of the idea of “urban sustainability.”
So, here goes:
Q: What does a “livable city” look like to you? Does the above picture cut it? Or…?
