Dream Kitchen: Drunkards’ Walk and Other Random Artistic Pursuits

—Second to Last Installment!—

Dream Kitchen by Design Kompany 2008Dream Kitchen is a bi-weekly co-working session: you bring your work to our office, we sit together, get stuff done, chat a little, and eat lunch together over a guest’s chosen topic of conversation.

Last week, we talked about social media and how to make them work. At other Kitchens, we cooked a meal together. We talked about publishing books, and building furniture out of scraps, among other things.

This Friday, we are hosting another co-working day with special guest Mark VonRosenstiel.

Mark is a graphic artist, a sculptor, a furniture designer, an avid soccer and basketball player, a street-art educator, a web development wizard, and a high-math theorist.

Drunkard's Walk

What?

Okay, to put it in other words: his latest passion is designing a building based on Cantor set (don’t ask me, it’s all over my head really), building a custom-made lamps, dog head sculpture, and as seen above, “Drunkard’s Walk” web experiment inspired by this talk that we attended together.

He brings all his disparate interests into things he makes, which really fits well into our random ways.

No wonder then, that he and I make such a good team; we have had a good fortune to collaborate with him on a couple of projects in the past, and the results are just stunning.

More than anything, though, it’s his general good-natured enthusiasm and boundless energy that I love about this guy; he’s that kid in the kindergarten who never stopped running around happily, oblivious to the teachers’ calls and drama unfolding around him, only now 6-ft-tall and with a shaggy beard.

Mark has been totally jazzed about his on-going projects coming together of late, and he’s agreed to share them with us on Friday. This might actually involve taking a “field trip” over to his yard, where his various creations reside!

Also: this is second-to-last installment of Dream Kitchen this summer (future plans to be determined), so catch this happening while it is!
