Notes from Europe (3): Tender Bananas

Berlin clippings

** Another dispatch arrives from Dipika, who is in Europe scoping out art scenes everywhere—AM **

“Dude, I’m in Deutchland.

I had lunch at “The Gropius Cafe” in Berlin Mitte and picked up this postcard…

…I personally have titled it “Tender Bananas,” since I think “Ohne Titel” means “Untitled.” Could someone check? (yes, it means “without title”— ed.)

Tender Bananas

It’s by Paul Spriewald and is from 1991! Can you believe it? This just goes to show that “fresh” ideas are new at the time.

Styles, trends and fashions inevitably come around again eventually—take retro furniture, for example. Stuff from the 1970s, like bold, fat bright stripes and puffy orange jackets— this will be back in style soon.

Now, okay. I have to vent about one thing: ipod ads. The silhouettes are looking really stale now. They are here in Berlin, on subways, with orange-reddy colors and they are bo-ring. C’mon Apple, Let’s see next.
