Just got this plastic-pulp book in the post to read for a design we’re doing for Greener Lifestyles, a sustainable furniture store in Ballard. Both the store and the book are born out of an earnest and important idea: making use of 100% of the waste stream, instead of just psyching ourselves into thinking “using less” = taking care of the planet.
Reading William McDonough & Michael Braungart–an urban designer and chemist, respectively–is a delight. Cradle to Cradle opens a curtain on this idea: industry and environmentalism don’t have to compete.
The 1990s way of thinking was reduce, reuse and recycle. Now? Waste equals food.
