I made this yesterday in Adobe Illustrator. Once, in art school, I had an assignment for one of my color theory classes. You had to put swatches of color next to one another so there’d be this illusion of transparency. For some reason I was reminded of that task yesterday.
To create the see-through effect here, I placed a copy of the “o” and “l” on separate layers, and lined these directly beneath the original letterforms. I changed the shade of the top ones. Then with the knife tool I sliced bits to reveal portions of the “l” and “o” shapes on the layer below.
