Sakura Con kicked off today at the downtown Seattle convention center–three days of anime and mangavation. Amazing to see people wearing colorful costumes they’ve constructed themselves, including one woman with a structure of wings spanning eight or ten feet. She had a strait jacket, too. Just one of the characters who’ve flown into Seattle for the anime convention. Japanafandom at its peak. Booths about language classes. J Pop latest releases. Even the Consulate of Japan was there…. Nice to see kids (out of school for Good Friday?) populating the otherwise desolate Freeway Park.
Akira: “I know what those guys are trying to be.”
Dipika: “What?”
Akira: “Naruto. Really popular in the States but not so much in Japan. The only reason I know about them is because I wrote this post about this band called Sambo Master, who’d sang the theme song for this animation series, which I didn’t know. But for some reason, kids were starting to ping that post a lot.” Akira’s post on Sambo Master
