Years ago a cousin was on track for his MBA, and on a visit to Chicago I leafed through a short stack of books. A passage in one has always stuck with me: “Name every project you do.”
A client of Design Kompany’s just asked us to do some interim layout work before totally redesigning a storefront brand. “OK,” I said. “We can do that. But let’s give this project a name.”
A pause, then I said–
“Let’s call it ‘Phase 0.’”
Giving a project a name helps us see it as its own entity, separate from us, but not untied to our hopes and dreams. Once named, it’s much easier to lay out steps to make a thing really come alive. A design project is like a baby. You create it, Design Kompany delivers.
