I got a press release from the City of Seattle the other day about a panel of architects speaking Thursday, Nov. 30, on eco-friendly (or “green“) design they’re doing in Portland and Seattle. I moved to this city to cover the environment beat for the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, and I’m still interested in local stories on things like designing for dense cities so people don’t have to drive, saving rather than tearing down old buildings, carpet that doesn’t off-gas harmful chemicals, and new systems designed to save water and energy.
Some of the architects speaking tomorrow I’ve had a chance to interview, so I know they really do know their stuff. For example, Bert Gregory of Mithun will talk about an urban design plan for a sustainable neighborhood at Portland’s Lloyd Crossing. And architect Rob Harrison will talk about green roofs.
