Nostalgia

Where the Wild Things Are; A bookWhere the wild things are

The poster for a new movie, Where the Wild Things Are makes me happy and sad at the same time.

Happy: “Wow! I can’t believe they’re making it into a movie!!! I LOVE this book.”

Sad: “I really feel like somebody is trying to make a buck off of my childhood memories. And yes, I’m sort of immediately excited about calling up the bygone happy days. So, like, is this pathetic?

What I mean is, do we have to always get happy about things that make us feel like little kids? Like playgrounds. Goldfish. Gummy bears.

Do we have to look back to be happy? What about what’s right in front of us, the new and unusual, the never-before-experienced—is it just too much?

Is that why we get giddy about Wonder Years reruns and Star Wars re-releases and other bits of nostalgia?

What about originality? What about changing it up? Isn’t it always kinduva letdown when you try to relive a great memory?”

What do you think?

Developing the children’s book into a good film, will be a very hard task. However the design looks great!
