Simple Marketing Tip: Register on Google

Google local result: this is still the old informationI just registered Design Kompany’s new location with Google’s local search listing, which has been on my to-do list for quite a while now. So last time I listed where we were, it took a while. In fact, we didn’t get listed until they confirmed that we were in their local yellow page listing. And of course, it had taken some time to get registered there.

But this time, not only did their “smart form” figure out where we were pretty fast, it let me put in more stuff than just an address, too. A description of what we do, the category our business belongs to, and our opening hours.

After I put in those details, the form told me to click a button that said:

“Call me now”

Which was, Google explained, to verify the information by phone.

A: “Hey, you are about to receive a phone call from Google. Just answer it.”
D: “What? Oh, the phone is ringing.”
A: …
D: “Hey, it says to put in the PIN number.”
A: “Oh yeah - let me see. Here it is.”

As soon as we entered the number, my computer screen changed to say “Verification Complete,” and the voice on the phone said that our updated information will be searchable in four weeks.

If your business hasn’t been listed yet, I suggest you give it a try. It’s the easiest marketing action you can take right now!
