On Deck: June Korner

Designers Korner June 2 2008Design Kompany hosts Designers Korner tomorrow, Monday, June 2 at Stumbling Monk in Capitol Hill.

If you’re into design, art, architecture, DNA, video animation, Flash, Ticket to Ride, or anything else related to making things and being creative, stop on by.

By far our favorite DK event, Korner has become something of a regular monthly “zoning out.” We look forward to it towards the end of every month, when people start putting furniture out on the street corners ahead of moving out of their apartments. That’s always how I know when it’s nearly time for Korner. I see some kind of console sitting around on a sidewalk.

The people make Korner fun. We’ve gotten to know one another because there’s a small group of us that get together once a month. Isn’t that something? It’s not like we have to schedule it or check back or confirm. The fact that Korner is happening is just a given. The fact that everyone is welcome is even more of one.

I first started hanging out at Stumbling Monk about 3.4 years ago. It sort of reminded me of Ireland. I was there to meet some people for a Boggle challenge. Boggle was really important to me at that time. I couldn’t get enough of it. I started playing an online version that ranked people at different levels.

Not true today. Today, making videos about nothing in particular is my current favorite thing.

May Korner

Let me tell you about Designers Korner by sharing an example.

Here’s what we did last time.

At the request of a young Naruto fan from Illinois, Design Kompany gathered these drawings by friends, artists, graphic designers and animators at the May installment of Designers Korner.

See more at Naruto request: ‘Can you also make me a drawing book?’
